Hi Tigers! This is the second Guess the Teacher for the 2025/2026 school year. As always send your guesses to us through our instagram; @Hcitigertalk. Good luck!!
Last Mystery teacher was…. Ms Gray!
David: Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
Mystery Teacher: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, but I grew up in the Sault, London [..., Ontario], Milton, and St. Catharines.
David: Who was the most important role model to you growing up?
Mystery Teacher: Wow… It’s a funny question because the person at that time was a great role model, but I no longer identify with him and his views at all. He was the director of a summer camp I worked at and taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance. His name was Bruce Chapman. There’s another guy, Rick Tobias, and he was the director of the Yonge St. Mission, and, after law school, I volunteered there under him for a number of years. He was a very inspiring person.
David: What was your childhood dream job?
Mystery Teacher: It might not be wrong to say architect because, in part, I watched The Brady Bunch as a child, and Mike Brady, who was the father in the show, was an architect. I don’t know, he just connected with me somehow.
David: When did you decide you wanted to become a teacher?
Mystery Teacher: That would be about 22 years ago, when I had a one-year-old son, I was working really long hours in my job, I thought that wouldn’t change anytime soon, and I didn't want to miss important moments in his life, and so I started looking for other jobs that would let me be a bigger part of his life.
David: How many different jobs did you have before teaching?
Mystery Teacher: I mean, I started as a paperboy delivering the paper in Milton, Ontario. I worked summer jobs while I was in high school and university as a print boy for an engineering firm in St. Catherines. I worked at a summer camp near Milton, and, oh yeah I almost forgot, I worked in northern Ontario planting trees for 8 cents per tree and lived in a tent. And of course, I worked 20 years as a lawyer in various capacities.
David: What is your favourite sport/sports team?
Mystery Teacher: Hockey, and the Boston Bruins. I also really enjoy curling.
David: What is something that most people wouldn’t guess about you?
Mystery Teacher: I’m only 32 years old! Ha ha, no, not really. I try to avoid conflict with people, but nevertheless find myself in conflict a lot, and so most people see me as argumentative, despite how I try to go about life.
David: If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
Mystery Teacher: I think I’d be a whale. They seem very independent. They have the ocean as their backyard, and they're not at serious risk of being killed by people. That is, assuming you mean an animal other than a human.
David: What is your favourite book, movie, TV show, etc?
Mystery Teacher: Wow, so many. I love War and Peace and Anna Karenina, but also, there’s a movie called Memento, and I love it so much because it’s about the lies people intentionally tell themselves. I also just like things that are kind of out of chronological order in general, too.
David: What is one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?
Mystery Teacher: Enjoy every sandwich. That’s a quote from Warren Zevon, and when he was about to die from cancer, he said to enjoy everything in life: enjoy every sandwich, get the most out of every moment, and live life intentionally.
